Distribution change
When distribution rights for ISBNs move from one distributor to another (so when a publisher changes a way of distribution), Nextory must be informed in advance. Without prior notice, affected titles may temporarily become inactive on the platform.
To ensure a smooth transition, all titles must remain continuously available and correctly linked to the new distributor setup.
Key Requirements Before the Switch
- Advance notice is mandatory
Nextory must be informed at least 5 business days before the distributor changes. - Metadata redelivery
All metadata must be redelivered by the new distributor before the switch takes place. - Catalogue availability
Publisher’s full catalogue that is active on Nextory must be available from the new distributor source. - Contract alignment
The new distributor setup must be contractually approved before the switch date.
What Happens on the Switch Date
On the day of the switch:
- The previous distributor delivers takedown files.
- Imprints are reassigned to the new distributor
- All affected products are reprocessed and reconnected
For Distributors: Troubleshooting Inactive ISBNs
If you notice that:
- ISBNs are inactive on Nextory
- Several days have passed since delivery
- Metadata and codes are correct
- Titles were previously handled by another distributor
The likely cause is an unannounced distributor change.
What Nextory Needs
To avoid disruptions, please provide the following information before the switch:
- Confirmation of the distributor change
- Affected imprint name(s)
- Previous distributor
- New distributor
- Effective date of the change
This information can be provided by either the publisher or the distributor.
What Happens Next
Once the information is received:
- Contracts are aligned with the new distributor
- ISBNs are reassigned correctly
- Titles remain active or are reactivated without interruption
